This place is an oasis. My husband fishes and this place makes it pretty darn easy and fun. I don't fish, but love eating the catches and reading or walking for miles with no cell phone coverage. Just quiet.
Plus, the food at the Lodge is delicious! We always get food service there and this time we had a breakfast hash Saturday morning that I will dream about...
The rooms run the gamut: they've got a few motel style rooms that are just ok, but if you stay in a Suite, it lives up to the name. The houses at Ralph's Ridge are even nicer (but find a group of 6 or so to split the cost).
Food was well prepared and got. The ambiance is fitting for a lodge feel. Service was very slow and did not check back to see if all was good til almost done with dinner. We needed more butter and drinks refilled. It wasn't that busy and sufficient workers. We had to ask another person to get us everything. I'm sure it was just a bad day. The whole area is just amazing. Catch your own trout I'm the pool by the restaurant and they will cook it for you! The trout was superb!!
A little preview of heaven. Perfect place to unplug from technology and immerse yourself in nature. World class customer service. Breath taking beautiful views from every angle. Fish abundant.
It's a little out of the way, which adds to its appeal. We didn't stay the night, just ate at the restaurant and hung out at the creek and took some amazing photos (still processing). The food service was amazing. The portions are huge. Be prepared for leftovers.
This was a beautiful fall color day trip. The trout dinner was delicious; the wait staff was kind & efficient, and the atmosphere was very relaxing. I recommend screen shoting directions / map; there is no internet service on the road.
Rockbridge is mainly a fly fishing location, not so good for hunting. In two days of hunting we saw NO deer, but heard many other hunters harvesting deer. The location is very pretty, but it seems the guides put very little thought into where they set us up to hunt. The deer blinds were in haphazard locations with very limited fields of fire. In both places they put us, the blinds were blocked by large trees with visibility of less than 100 yards. One blind had no chairs when we arrived pre-dawn. The blinds were nothing but cheap Walmart tents, apparently purchased a few days earlier. There was no evidence of feeders or trail cams to scope out good locations. Definitely not worth the hunting fees. I will not be returning.
Great food and service. My only complaint is the outside entrance. If you have mobility issues, even with a cane or walker, getting to the restaurant is incredibly steep and hard to walk and maintain balance, no handrails for support, leaving it is as bad, becuase of the momentum you gain walking down. Fix this and definite five star rating! Food is slways delicious and the servers are all outstanding.
While I have never stayed at Rockbridge, we have patronized the restaurant for years. This is also a pay-to-fish (Rainbow Trout) in a spring fed Coldwater stream. The restaurant will fix your catch if you desire. Needless to say Trout figure prominently on the restaurant menu. Also offered is steak, pork chops, chicken etc. The resort is somewhat remote, GPS will work, however, for those who still know how to read a map, it is a better option.
